This article from the child abuse website informs people of the effects of child abuse. It also informs people of the influences of child abuse and how to help children that are being abused. It helps inform people to keep them aware and gives ideas on how it can be helped.

I decided to Research Child abuse because i believe it is a very Important issue that impacts many. I think it's sad that it's something thats talked about so much but hardly noticed when it is going on. I think child abuse is a strong and impacting issue that goes on everywhere, and that is why i chose it.

Social Awareness: Response to Literature

a child called it

A Child Called It.

I read the book A Child Called It a long time ago and every time i think of serious social issues such as abuse I think of this book. The main character is a young child who is constantly abused by his mother. She brutally abuses him by taking away meals, burning him, beating him, and poisoning him by forcing him to inhale fumes of toxic chemicals. A Child called it is a story a about a young boys struggling to get out of the abusive home he lives in. He has great courage to be able to get out of his situation and it also sends out a message for other people to become more aware of child abuse.

Social Awareness: Response to songs with Social Problems.

eminem 1
For my social awareness response i chose the song Cleaning Out My Closet by Eminem. This issue that this song is presenting is Child abuse and Neglect.

EMINEM- CLEANIN' OUT MY CLOSET
(VIDEO Available on this Blog)

Have you ever been hated or discriminated against,
I have, i've been protested and demonstrated against,
picket signs for my wicked rhymes, look at the times,
sick is the mind of the motherf*****' kid that's behind,
all this commotion, emotions run deep as ocean's explodin',
tempers flaring from parents, just blow 'em off and keep goin',
not takin' nothin' from no one, give 'em hell long as i'm breathin',
keep kickin' a** in the mornin', an' takin' names in the evening,
leave 'em with a taste as sour as vinegar in they mouth,
see they can trigger me but they'll never figure me out,
look at me now, I bet ya' probably sick of me now, ain't you mama,
i'ma make you look so ridiculous now...

[CHORUS]

I'm sorry mama, I never meant to hurt you,
I never meant to make you cry,
but tonight i'm cleanin' out my closet,
{one more time},
I said i'm sorry mama, I never meant to hurt you,
never meant to make you cry,
but tonight i'm cleanin' out my closet...

I got some skeletons in my closet and I don't know if no one knows it,
so before they thrown me inside my coffin and close it,
i'ma expose it, i'll take you back to '73,
before I ever had a multi-platinum sellin' Cd,
I was a baby, maybe I was just a couple of months,
my faggot father must have had his pantie's up in a bunch,
cause he split, I wonder if he even kissed me goodbye,
no I don't on second thought, I just f*****' wished he would die,
I look at Hailie and I couldn't picture leavin' her side,
even if I hated Kim, I grit my teeth and I'd try,
to make it work with her at least for Hailie's sake,
I maybe made some mistakes but i'm only human,
but i'm man enough to face them today,
what I did was stupid, no doubt it was dumb,
but the smartest s**** I did was take them bullets out of that gun,
cause id'a killed 'em, shit I would have shot Kim and him both,
it's my life, i'd like to welcome y'all to the Eminem show...

[CHORUS]

Now I would never diss my own mama just to get recognition,
take a second to listen who you think this record is dissin',
but put yourself in my position, just try to envision witnessin'
your Mama poppin' prescription pills in the kitchen, bitchin'
that someone's always goin' through her purse and shits missin',
going through public housing systems, victim of Münchhausen's syndrome,
my whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't 'til I grew up,
now I blew up, it makes you sick to ya' stomach, doesn't it,
wasn't it the reason you made that Cd for me, ma,
so you could try to justify the way you treated me, ma,
but guess what, your gettin' older now and it's cold when your lonely,
and Nathan's growing up so quick, he's gonna know that your phoney,
and Hailie's getting so big now, you should see her, she's beautiful,
but you'll never see her, she won't even be at your funeral,
see what hurts me the most is you won't admit you was wrong,
b****, do your song, keep tellin' yourself that you was a mom,
but how dare you try to take what you didn't help me to get,
you selfish b****, I hope you f*****' burn in hell for this s****,
remember when Ronnie died and you said you wished it was me,
well guess what, I am dead, dead to you as can be...

[CHORUS]

This song is about the relationship between a mother and son and how his mother abused and neglected him as a child and how it is effecting him.

now I blew up, it makes you sick to ya' stomach, doesn't it,
wasn't it the reason you made that Cd for me, ma,
so you could try to justify the way you treated me, ma,

This part of the song is explaining how Eminem made it big and how his mother doesn't like how well he's doing so she made a CD for him to try and make herself seem like a good person/mother.

remember when Ronnie died and you said you wished it was me,
well guess what, I am dead, dead to you as can be...

This part is explaining how little his mother cared for him and how she would rather have him dead then her brother, and he's also saying how it seems as if he is already dead to her because she doesn't care about him.

I was a baby, maybe I was just a couple of months,
my faggot father must have had his pantie's up in a bunch,
cause he split, I wonder if he even kissed me goodbye,
no I don't on second thought, I just f*****' wished he would die,

This part explains how his father left him at a young age and it shows that he already lacked support and how his mother failed to provide it.

I got some skeletons in my closet and I don't know if no one knows it,
so before they thrown me inside my coffin and close it,
i'ma expose it, i'll take you back to '73,
before I ever had a multi-platinum sellin' Cd,

This part is explaining all the secrets that he was forced to keep secrets about his past and how now that he's doing so well he is being treated differently.

Response to mother to son

mother and son
I think that this poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes has a very deep meaning to it. I think that when the mother was telling the son "Well, son, I'll tell you: Life for me ain't been no no crystal stair." I think that she means that her life wasn't so great so she is kind of telling her son to have a better life than she did. I think that she means that Life isn't easy and she's giving her son a message by telling him this so that he knows not expect things to come so easy in life. She may be trying to say that you have to work for what you earn.

Appreciation [Draft)

I Appreciate the fact that Stuart is a very little mouse and his family treats him like he's a regular person. His family acts like Stuart isn't smaller then anyone else in the family. The Little family treats Stuart like he's his actual human son.Nobody puts Stuart down just because he's little, and they don't tell him that he can't do things just because of his siz
In the beginning of the book Mrs.Little said "As Our New Son Arrived" and in the beginning it also said "He was quit smaller then any ordinary son. They acted like Mrs.Little actually gave birth to Stuart and Stuart is their actual son.Mrs.Little and Mr.Little Like if Stuart were George. But in some point of the book like in the begging I think that they take advantage of Stuart and his size. They asked him to get Mrs.Little's Ring from the drain, Whenever they play ping-pong and the ball rolls under the chair they would tell Stuart to go get it, and then when  one note in the piano didn't work they put him inside of the piano when ever someone played the piano.Stuart is very special because he has these unique qualities that nobody else does. I'm saying that when they take advantage of Stuart and his size they don't take advantage of him in a bad way. They take advantage because Stuart can do these things that /nobody else in the Stuart family can do.
They treat Stuart like he's Just a regular person, and Stuart goes on a big journey to find Margalo but he doesn't even end up finding her at the end of the book.At the end of the book his journey just continues and i guess that the author probably wanted the reader to make up their own ending to the book. Like on the blurb of the book it says "He's one small mouse on one very big adventure". He's so small and he's doing these things that probably an average mouse cannot do.I think that is what E.B White is trying to tell you inside of this book Stuart Little he's trying to say just because your little dosn't mean you can do big thing.
This book is a Time conssuming book because you can read it in any time period and you will still get the same message.

Entry #7

E.B White

“real life is only one kind of life — there is also the life of the imagination.”
Born:July 11, 1899
Born in:Mount Vernon, New York,
United States Of America
Died:October 1, 1985

E.B is the Author of Many children's   books his books his books include: Charlotte's Web,Stuart Little and The Trumpet of the Swan.
I have read two of these books, and i have enjoyed them very much. E.B White graduated from Cornell University in 1921. His Stories show hope in many different ways he is very inspiring to most of his readers.
E.B White has won many awards, including the 1971 National Medal for Literature and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal. Surprisingly he found writing very difficult even though he is a great writer. He loved writing Poetry the most. His inspiration for Stuart Little Was a dream “Many years ago,” E.B. White would say, “I went to bed one night in a railway sleeping car, and during the night I dreamed about a tiny boy who acted rather like a mouse. That's how the story of Stuart Little got started.” His inspiration for Charlotte's Web was a spider at work “I had been watching a big grey spider at her work and was impressed by how clever she was at weaving. Gradually I worked the spider into the story that you know, a story of friendship and salvation on a farm.” E.B White was a very remarkable writer.

Entry #6

I think that my best annotation in the book Stuart Little is "I think they take advantage of Stuart and his size" Because in that part of the book they asked Stuart to go inside of the drain, to find Mrs. Littles ring,to go like under the couch to get the Ping-Pong balls when ever they would play Ping-Pong. To push up the piano key because it was broken and it didn't sound right so they put Stuart inside of the piano when ever someone would play the piano. they wouldn't even help Stuart get outside of the piano either. Also when Stuart would get out of the piano he would be almost deaf and he would barley be able to hear. I don't think that they always take advantage of Stuart like the way that they did through out the whole book, but in that specific part in the begging of the book that they would take advantage of Stuart like they did.

Entry #5

What I appreciated about the book Charlotte's Web was the animals and Wilbur and Fern's care for the animals in the book. In the begging of the book Fern didn't want her father to kill m Wilbur when he was a baby because he was the smallest one. Fern tried to grab the ax out of her fathers hands so he wouldn't kill Wilbur. That is very dangerous expecially since she is like seven years old. Also when Charlotte was demonstarting to Wilbur how she eats her food, Wilbur's like you have to kill the insect? So Wilbur was concerned for the insect because i guess that he dosn't want to see Charlotte take another life away.
Wilbur and Fern share the same type of characteristics like they both care for other animals. I guess that they share the same type of charcteristics because Fern actually raised Wilbur herself so I guuess that Wilbur cought on to Fern and how she acts when she's with other people. Wilbur likes to meet new friends like Wilbur was very exited and couldn't sleep when he knew that he was going to meet a nhew friend which was Charlotte. I guess that Fern likes to meet new friends too because  she wanted to take care of Wilbur and she made a new friend.
